Let’s go to Philadelphia Eagles links …
Inside NFL observations: don’t expect too many big spenders at free agencies, plus news about Carson Wentz and more – CBS Sports
The Eagles, Colts and Bears’ chicken game over Carson Wentz was never particularly close to being resolved, despite what so many reported breathlessly around the Super Bowl, and its $ 10 million list bonus due next month remains an elephant in the room. The Eagles paid Sam Bradford a large sum of money not so long ago and negotiated it anyway, for the Vikings, for a choice in the first round. Some believe that the property may be willing to – or at the end of the day may simply have to – swallow that type of scam again to facilitate obtaining maximum compensation for what amounts to Philly’s backup QB at this point. A hard pill that won’t go down easy, but I don’t see the kind of offers that are increasing much, unless the financial burden is borne by the Eagles. There are a ton of options out there, including the draft, and a very limited market for Wentz. It was never close, it will always be complicated, and although I expect Wentz to leave in the next few weeks, it would never be easy.
NFL rumors: Eagles are trying to create an ‘illusionary’ commercial market by ex-GM Carson Wentz, NJ native, says – NJ.com
Lombardi said another impulse to close a deal quickly is to avoid paying Wentz a $ 10 million bonus on the third day of the league year, something the team would not want to pay if it wants to change it. Lombardi said the on-call bonus created a de facto negotiation deadline. “They tried to create this illusory market out there,” said Lombardi. “They took billboards with the World Leader and did everything they could to create this flat market. Two weeks ago, it was supposed to be traded for a blockbuster, and it didn’t. Most teams are looking around, saying, ‘We are not in this.’ At some point, the Eagles will realize that two days before the list’s bonus expires, either making this deal or not paying $ 10 million is worth it. “
What if the Eagles negotiate Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts? – BGN
Hurts had some flashes at the end of last season. There were some things to like, like his mobility and the touch he gives to passes (a stark contrast to Wentz). But the overall numbers just weren’t pretty. We are talking about a player who finished 40th out of 42 quarterbacks in the Pro Football Focus ranking and 31st out of 37 quarterbacks in Football Outsiders DVOA. Hurts posted a percentage of bad pitches of 26.7% and 60.7% of the target pitch percentage. In context, Drew Lock ended up as the worst defender among qualified passers-by last season with 22.9% and 68.9%, respectively. This means that Hurts was significantly worse than the worst brands. Of course, this does not mean that Hurts cannot improve. He played his debut season at just 22 years old and seems to have a great work ethic, in addition to being highly trainable. Perhaps Nick Sirianni, Shane Steichen and Brian Johnson will help bring out the best in Hurts. And even if the Eagles get a quarterback high this year, it doesn’t hurt (no pun intended) to keep Hurts around for more options.

Three free agents that make sense for the Eagles, version 1.0 – PhillyVoice
Gareon Conley is probably best known for having his shares dropped dramatically just before the 2017 NFL Draft, after he was accused of sexual assault. (A grand jury later decided not to charge him, and he even did a polygraph test for the teams before recruiting.) At the time, I was told that the Eagles would have chosen Conley with the 14th overall choice instead of Derek Barnett if those claims had not been made. Of course, he probably wouldn’t have made it to the 14th overall choice in this scenario. The Raiders ended up choosing him in 24th overall. In Oakland, Conley was a disappointment overall, but he showed talent for the NFL and was the Raiders’ No. 1 CB in the 2019 season. After six games in 2019, the Raiders negotiated with the Texans for a choice in the third round. It should be noted that Jon Gruden did not seem to have much use for any of the choices of the four Raiders in the first round before his arrival, as Khalil Mack, Amari Cooper, Karl Joseph and Conley are no longer on the team. In Houston, Conley had a solid season in 2019 and managed many passes. Including the playoffs, he had 14 PBUs in 9 games.
Evaluating the list – Iggles Blitz
Please don’t read this as a kind of compliment to the current team or Howie Roseman. The 1998 Eagles were 3-13 and had one of the worst offenses I have seen in more than 40 years of NFL football. It was a terrible team. For the current list to be a better hair than that bunch entering the off-season is pathetic.
The daunting challenge that Nick Sirianni – NBCSP faces
All those guys had early success with the Eagles because they all had something to work with when they got here. Rhodes and Kelly made the playoffs in their first season, and Ryan, Kotite, Reid and Pederson in their second year – throwing away the 1987 strike year for Buddy. What does Sirianni have to work on? Miles Sanders, Dallas Goedert and … Hmmm. You see why there is a problem here. It’s been a long, long time since a new Eagles coach went through a worse situation. Maybe Marion Campbell in 1983. But he had young Mike Quick, a still-effective Ron Jaworski, Wilbert Montgomery at his peak and young men like Ray Ellis, Dennis Harrison, Greg Brown, Anthony Griggs, Roynell Young and Hopkins on defense.
Why would Carson Wentz want to play for the Bears? – PFT
Then there is the reality that the seats are heating up in Chicago. Wentz, if he fails in 2021, could see many people on the team being fired. That would put a ton of extra pressure on him for the next season, and it could result in Wentz negotiating again after 2021. Although Wentz doesn’t have a no-trading clause, why did the Bears want him if he didn’t want to be there? A timely call from his agent to GM Ryan Pace could make that point clear, and would become the final caveat emptor for Carson Wentz’s courtship. Wentz should want to go to the Colts and just the Colts. This creates a problem for the Eagles, as it undermines their advantage by having only one team at the table.
Top 10 QBs for 2021 NFL Draft: Trevor Lawrence leads, with Zach Wilson still hot – The Athletic
3. Justin Fields, Ohio State (6-3, 218 pounds). Kennesaw, Ga. (Harrison); Age: 22.15. A two-year-old from Ohio, Fields was one of the best college football players for the past two seasons in coach Ryan Day’s multiple attack. With Jake Fromm blocking him in Georgia, he moved to Columbus in 2019 and needed just 21 games to reach second place in Ohio state history in career pass touchdowns (67), winning twice the award for Best Offensive Player of the Year twice. Fields has had the spotlight on him for a long time and he does not wilt, showing the confidence and competitive stamina that teammates support. It shows an excellent pace when the play is on schedule, but it should speed up your progression readings from target to target and improve your urgency when the initial target is withdrawn. Overall, Fields’ decision-making is more methodical than spontaneous, but he has high-roof features with his athleticism, precision and intangibles. He projects himself as a future beginner in the NFL if he can speed up his readings and processes.
