VDH launches central pre-registration site for COVID-19 vaccine

RICHMOND, Virginia. (WDBJ / VDH launch) – The Virginia Department of Health today launched a new centralized website designed to allow Virgos to “easily pre-register for the COVID-19 vaccine,” according to the VDH. The website was designed to allow people to pre-register online, verify that they are pre-registered and access additional information about vaccination implementation in Virginia.

Virginians who pre-registered in their local health districts were automatically imported into the new system, according to the HRD, and do not need to pre-register again. The data migration continues throughout the week and it may take several days for your name to appear in the centralized system. All those who previously registered remain on the list and their status will not be affected, said VDH

The Virginia Department of Health expects millions of unique site visits on launch day (February 16), and IT teams will handle back-end components as needed throughout the day. Anyone who cannot get through immediately should try again.

The VDH will also launch an accompanying hotline number on Wednesday, February 17, for people who are uncomfortable or unable to pre-register online. Governor Northam is due to hold a news conference on Wednesday with more information about the number.

Due to the technological limitations of the national CVS Pharmacy nomination system, Virgos must continue to register for CVS appointments through the CVS Pharmacy website. The Fairfax Department of Health has chosen to maintain its local registration form as one of the few health districts that are not part of the state of Virginia’s health system. Virginia residents eligible for vaccination based on living or working in Fairfax County must pre-register for vaccination on the Fairfax County Department of Health website.

Virginia vaccinated more than 12% of the population with at least one dose, according to the VDH. The demand for the COVID-19 vaccine currently exceeds the supply, and VDH said it is expected to take several months to reach everyone who wants to be vaccinated.

Virginia is prioritizing people who qualify for Phase 1b: people aged 65 and over; essential frontline workers; those who live and work in homeless shelters, correctional facilities and labor camps for migrants; and individuals with high-risk medical conditions.
