Another big winter storm is coming: here’s what to expect

Here we go again. Another major winter storm will bring heavy snow, ice and dangerous cold air to millions of people across the country.

More than 100 million people are under some kind of winter weather alert, as this next system impacts areas from Texas to New England.

3 to 6 inch snow totals with higher totals will be possible in parts of Arkansas up to Central Appalachians. Significant accumulations of ice will threaten parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi and then North Carolina and Virginia. This can be devastating with dangerous travel, power outages and tree damage.

The dangerous cold continues on the plains with single-digit morning lows and chills below zero. Temperatures will start to moderate a little in the south, but very slowly.

Meanwhile, the southern Arctic front bringing winter weather, heavy rain, downpours and thunderstorms will be the story for the Southeast. Some isolated storms can become severe.

And finally, another storm system coming from the Pacific will bring coastal rain and snow in the mountains from Northern California to Oregon.
