Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s new free River Raids mode has already been released

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, that famous lightweight video game, received a major free update today. The Yule season update adds a new game mode called River Raids, which adds higher bet raids, a new, customizable boat and a

There is a trailer explaining the new features below.

Raiding in Valhalla is where you get on your boat with some Viking friends and go to fight with some Englishmen. Alice B liked the critique of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and this update was designed to allow you to do more than that without messing with the progression of the main game or impacting your alliances around Englnad.

Valhalla was already huge, as in most Assassin’s Creed games, but this update also adds three new river-defined maps to navigate. There are different types of settlements that you can invade in the region, and some are designed to be more challenging than those in the main game. Consequently, you will unlock better rewards for completing them.

The part that interests me most is not mentioned in the video above – not in detail. The Vikings you will take with you in these raids are recruited and upgraded through a new Jomsviking building, but Ubisoft mentions that these Jomsvikings are “created by other online players”. I’m always a fan of that kind of multiplayer environment, and being able to quote a friend to say that I killed them while trying to set a village on fire. More games – all games – need to have a little bit of that Dragon’s Dogma thing in them.

There are more Valhalla updates to come, with the Ostara update scheduled for March to bring another new game mode.
