Leo Brent Bozell IV, son of right-wing activist L. Brent Bozell III, was charged in federal court for his alleged role in the Capitol insurrection on January 6.
Bozell IV faces three charges – disorderly conduct, entering a restricted building and obstructing an official case – according to a complaint filed on February 16.
Bozell’s father is the founder of the conservative Media Research Center, a self-styled surveillance group that aims to “expose and neutralize the left wing’s propaganda arm: the national news media”. His Parents Television Council campaigns to bring “responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry in response to America’s demand for positive, family-oriented television programming, “and the Culture and Media Institute, founded by Bozell III in 1987, rebukes what it claims to be” liberal bias “across the media American. Bozell III speaks openly about his extreme anti-abortion views, and recently complained on Fox Business network that all Republicans were unfairly considered participants in the mutiny.
The complaint against Bozell IV, who coached women’s basketball at the Hershey Christian Academy in Pennsylvania, contains images of video footage showing him on the Senate porch, as well as roaming the Senate floor during the Capitol riot. He can be seen wearing a blue sweatshirt with the inscription “Hershey Christian Academy” on his chest. At least three different witnesses saw a video on TV or on Bozell’s social media participating in the rebellion and contacted the FBI, the complaint said.
The FBI received its first complaint about Bozell IV on January 14, according to the complaint. The informant provided the full name of Bozell IV, along with links to Bozell’s video inside the Capitol, as well as pictures of him leaving the building. The next day, a second person contacted the FBI about a photo he had seen on Bozell IV’s Twitter, followed by additional information collected on the Hershey Christian Academy Facebook page, which revealed the coach’s nickname as “Zeeker”.
Six days later, a concerned third citizen sent a complaint through the FBI website that included a photo of Bozell IV and a teenager on a basketball court, holding a trophy. The insider said he was “100% certain that Zeeker Bozell” was involved in the Capitol riot.
A few days after the siege of the Capitol, a co-worker showed the informant a photo of a man leaving the Capitol building in a blue Hershey Christian Academy sweatshirt. They “immediately identified” Bozell IV as the father of children who attended Hershey Christian, and who also served as the school’s female basketball coach until March 2020, “since the team could no longer practice, or play, due to COVID 19 ”pandemic.
Bozell IV doesn’t have a lawyer listed in the court records yet. A spokesman for Bozell III did not respond to a request for comment from The Daily Beast.
