LastPass to limit the free tier for desktop or mobile from March 16

LogMeIn, the company behind the popular LastPass password manager, announced a major change in the way the free service level works. From March 16, 2021, users of the free tier will be limited to using the service only on the desktop or mobile phone.

Currently, the LastPass free tier is, in general, a fully functional password manager that allows you to use the service on mobile and desktop platforms. This means that you can create and save passwords on your computer through the desktop client and they will be automatically synchronized with your phone or tablet via the mobile app.

As of March 16, when free tier users log in to the mobile or desktop application, that specific platform will become the default. Say you choose desktop; in that case, you can continue using the service on the desktop and sync your passwords across multiple computers, but not with your phone or tablet.

If you are not satisfied with your choice of platform, you will have three chances to switch to the other. After your three attempts expire, you will be blocked on the last chosen platform.

If you want to unlock cross-platform sync support again, your option after March 16 would be to sign up for one of the company’s premium tiers, which currently includes a $ 36 / year individual plan (available for $ 27 / year for a period limited) and $ 48 / one-year family plan.
