Microsoft is launching a $ 100 “Xbox Wireless Headset” in the wake of the launch of its latest X and S Series console. With no shortage of options on the market, the new competitor will seek to build on the success of Microsoft’s solid Surface Headphones, while focusing on engaging audio and chat for games. The design also subtly emulates the black and green colors of the new Xbox, so there’s no mistaking its fidelity.
Microsoft says it understands the Xbox Wireless protocol, the technology used to connect peripherals to its rugged consoles, means that the headset does not suffer from low-delay voice and audio problems. It also supports a variety of spatial audio formats, including Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone: X. The extra immersion offered by surround sound, object-based technology is not only great for bringing virtual environments to life, but it also helps you to identify where these enemy footprints are approaching.
For voice quality, the headset uses dual-beam microphone elements, along with voice isolation tuning to enhance speech over background noise. An automatic muting function is also in the mix, along with a manual muting button, to help keep your chats clean when you stop talking. Updates are performed wirelessly on the console and you can pair your headphones with the Xbox Accessories app to adjust the audio further.
As is the norm, the headset is also compatible with all major gaming platforms and devices, thanks to wireless and Bluetooth support. Plus, you can pair it simultaneously with your phone and Xbox, allowing you to play and receive a call at the same time.
Pre-orders for the Xbox wireless headset start today at 7 am PST, with the official launch date of March 16.
