Valheim is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X | S or switch?

Valheim is one of the most recent hits of PC games, having sold 2 million copies in just under two weeks since its launch on February 2. But whether or not the early access multiplayer fantasy survival game will hit consoles is a question that is now on people’s minds. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the game will reach consoles like PS5, Xbox Series X | S or Nintendo Switch anytime soon.

According to a FAQ page on the official Valheim website, developer Iron Gate AB mentioned that “there are no plans to launch on other platforms” at the time of writing the post – which was last updated on January 18, 2021 However, the developer ended his response by confirming that he would not rule out the possibility of console versions in the future.

So, if you’re in the mood to play Valheim, but don’t have a PC, it looks like you’ll have to wait a while. It is also worth noting that – if you end up reaching the consoles – until the game leaves early access, you are unlikely to see Valheim arriving on the PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. On the other hand, Valheim may end up on the Xbox sooner or later, given the Game Preview program on that platform.

That said, it is possible that Valheim’s sudden increase in popularity is causing Iron Gate AB to change its development priorities, and with the FAQ mentioned above having been updated in mid-January 2021 – well before its official launch on Steam – the statement may not necessarily reflect the developer’s current position on possible future platforms for the game.
