Anthony Davis will be reevaluated in 2-3 weeks after suffering a calf strain during the Los Angeles Lakers game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night, according to ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski reported that MRI revealed a calf injury and a worsening of the right Achilles tendinosis that Davis had been dealing with. He added “Davis is extremely unlikely to return to the roster” ahead of the All-Star Break, which runs from March 5-10.
Davis did not play in the second half of the team’s 122-105 defeat on Sunday after suffering the injury, which came after being forced to miss two games earlier in the week with Achilles tendinosis.
Davis compounded his injury in the second quarter by bumping into Nikola Jokic. The knee of the Nuggets’ pivot hit Davis’s quadriceps, and he appeared to have injured his leg when planting his foot. After two free throws, he left the game.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, 27, “maintains a padded heel lift in sneakers and wears a sleeve when sleeping that keeps his Achilles tendon stretched” to limit the pain.
Davis said he could increase his treatment regimen to return to court earlier, but said he plans to be “even smarter” than he was the first time, when he returned on Friday to lose 35 points in the victory against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Kyle Kuzma took Davis’s place after the injury, and the fourth-year striker must continue playing in his place until the seven-time All-Star can return.
