Perez Hilton feels guilty for stabbing Spears in the past.
The notorious gossip columnist expressed regret over Britney Spears’ brutal treatment in the past after the release of the documentary “Framing Britney Spears”, narrating the pop star’s portrait in the media. Social media was furious after the series showed Hilton’s actions while the “Baby One More Time” singer was at her lowest point.
“I’m very sorry or most sorry about what I said about Britney,” the media personality, 42, told Good Morning Britain on Monday. “Fortunately, hopefully, many of us have aged and become wiser.”
Twitterati had recently gutted Hilton for her scathing coverage at the height of the popularity of her gossip blog, which included calling Spears an “inappropriate mother” after the 2007 paparazzi umbrella incident. He also displayed infamous T-shirts with the message: Why couldn’t it be Britney? ”On his website when actor Heath Ledger died in 2008.
“Perez Hilton commenting on Britney’s situation is totally inappropriate when he was the sparkling chief cheerleader,” tweeted a critic.
“As soon as we release Britney, we should arrest Perez Hilton,” another wrote.
Some accused Hilton of only apologizing after her dirty laundry resurfaced. “@GMB it’s not good everybody apologize for @Britney Spears now that this documentary has been released, ”they wrote. “This is the problem! I’m just sorry that she has to deal with so much hate. @PerezHilton it was one of the worst! “
Later in the interview, Hilton defended veteran journalist Diane Sawyer in a resurgent interview in 2003, in which she interrogated Spears about her breakup with then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
“Someone we talk about in this documentary briefly, Diane Sawyer – a respected journalist, a good woman – but many people are describing her as a villain,” said Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.
He continued, “I think a lot of fans and people just want to blame this person and that person, but it’s not that simple. There are real mental health issues at play with Britney Spears. “
The columnist added that the criticisms were hypocritical, given the non-compassionate reaction to the recent mental breakdowns of the rapper and former presidential candidate Kanye West.
Hilton joins a long list of celebrities who apologize to the “Princess of Pop” for past transgressions amid the #FreeBritney movement on social media.
In the most popular mea culpa, Justin Timberlake said he regretted his “ignorance” regarding the media’s treatment of Spears after his break with the “Toxic” singer in 2002.
Timberlake’s video “Cry Me A River” released a narrative that Spears, 39, betrayed him and broke his heart.
