OWINGS MILLS, Md. – While the Ravens were hooked up to an edge rusher and a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL draft, the team could use the 27th overall choice to add more talent to the secondary.
One option could be South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn, who is the son of former NFL wide receiver Joe Horn.
Here is an analysis of Jaycee Horn:
Size: 6 ft-1, 205 pounds
Pros: Horn is widely considered, ranked the third best cornerback in this year’s draft, behind Patrick Surtain II of Alabama and Caleb Farley of Virginia Tech, according to Pro Football Focus. Horn that is a solid size for a cornerback and has the excellent athletic ability to match the first-rate wide receivers. He is also versatile and can play on the slot machine. The last season ended with 16 tackles, two interceptions and six defended passes over seven games. Horn decided to opt out of the 2020 season in mid-November to focus on the project.
Cons: Horn will need to further develop as a tackler, especially in the Ravens system. He will also need to moderate some of his physicality to avoid costly penalties at the NFL level. The only outstanding question is whether it will be available when the Ravens make the 27th general selection.
To quote: GM Ravens Eric DeCosta: “We love our depth in high school. We love where we are now. And what we learned this year, again, is that you will never have enough songs. We say that every year, but this year was a great example. We had a a lot of guys falling at different times of the season. We played with a lot of different combinations and we were able to survive and really flourish in many ways back there, despite the different packages of people and people playing. “
Panorama: DeCosta would not hesitate to choose Horn if he is available when the Ravens make their choice in the first round. Baltimore, however, has depth in high school, and DeCosta probably wouldn’t feel the urgency to switch to Horn. Opponent defenders have focused on getting rid of the ball quickly against the Ravens because of their aggressive passing run, and this puts more pressure on the secondary. Horn would be a perfect fit in Baltimore.
