PWInsider reported on Sunday through various sources that Taya Valkyrie has signed a contract with WWE and will join the NXT brand. Valkyrie was reportedly backstage at this week’s NXT recording and will not be confirmed to the company until the next autograph class is announced. Valkyrie first appeared on the independent scene during her time at Lucha Libre AAA, holding the Reina AAA Championship three times (which she still currently holds). The American public met her in 2016, when she arrived at Lucha Underground alongside Johnny Mundo (John Morrison, with whom she is now married).
Valkyrie and Morrison jumped into Impact Wrestling in 2017, resulting in Valkyrie breaking the longest reign record as 377-day Impact Knockouts champion starting in January 2019. She was dropped from Impact last month when it was revealed that she shot on John E. Bravo in an attempt to prevent Rosemary from marrying him (long story there).
Morrison is already back in the main WWE roster, having worked alongside The Miz since January 2020.
Valkyrie will be the last star to jump from Impact to WWE. The company recently acquired two-thirds of The Rascalz in Dezmon Xavier and Zachary Wentz, revamping them as Wes Lee and Nash Carter of MSK.
During a media conference earlier this week, Triple H joked that the next signing class will feature a huge wave of new stars for the Women’s Division. He also talked about the possibility of a new Women’s Championship being introduced to the brand.
“I think these conversations happen. I think you’re always looking to do everything that can be [but] you also want to make sure you don’t dilute things. I don’t believe in having 38 titles in organizations that are like everyone constantly making their way to a different title at any time and I don’t believe it’s always about these championships, there are different stories, but this is definitely a thought that we have in mind and we’ll see where it goes, “he said.” I think that, especially with the increase in the size of the women’s division, people were talking about it for a few years, but I don’t believe that the depth and size were there and now it’s getting to that point. So these are conversations that are very popular. “
