Shiny Alomomola released on Pokémon GO for the Valentine’s Day event

The 2021 Valentine’s Day event starts today in Pokémon GO and delivered a surprise for the occasion: Shiny Alomomola! This unannounced release of Shiny is now available at Pokémon GO as part of this event that also debuts the new Pokémon Munna. Let’s dive into the details.

We will break it down little by little. Here’s what Niantic posted on Pokémon GO blog:

Date + Time: Sunday, February 14, 2021, at 1:00 pm to Thursday, February 18, 2021, at 8:00 pm, local time

Okay, at least that means we have two days off from the events before the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto begins. Begin your hunt for the loving pigeon for four days, then take the time to freshen up and stock up on supplies for the big day.

Features Munna and Musharna will make their Pokémon GO debut! Munna will appear in the jungle. Use a Unova Stone to evolve Munna into Musharna!

Hey, well, at least we’re finally going to get some use of those Unova stones. Let’s go!

The following Pokémon will appear most often in nature: Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Plusle, Minun, Volbeat, Illumise, Luvdisc, Munna and more. If you’re lucky, you can find a Feebas!

Just ignore that last big one and we’ll all be happier. It’s funny that Niantic seems to be focusing on pairs of Pokémon here. It reminds me a little of last year’s Friendship Event. This is also a good chance to hunt Illumise and Volbeat outside the region, so don’t miss your chance to hit the Shinies.

Evolve Kirlia during the event to get a Gardevoir or Gallade who knows Synchronoise!

The focus on past Community Day movements at these past events has been good, but perhaps it will stop at this one. These Pokémon have better moves.

The following Pokémon will hatch in 5 km Eggs: Eevee, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Luvdisc, Munna, Woobat and Cottonee.

Another basic element of the events seems to be the rotation of the Baby Pokémon inside and outside the event eggs. It makes me feel that we won’t see your return to 7KM Gift Eggs in the foreseeable future, so shoot whatever you want during this event.

Complete event-exclusive field research to find Pokémon like Ralts, Volbeat, Illumise, Spinda with a heart pattern and Alomomola, and earn other rewards.

It was not mentioned in the blog post, but Alomomola is now released in its Shiny form and can also be found in raids.

Spinda with the heart pattern is, for me, the biggest attraction of the event and it doesn’t even come close. This version of Spinda, like Yamask and Delibird, is limited in availability, only appearing at this event annually, at most.

Complete the Valentine’s Day themed Collection Challenge during the event by collecting Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Espeon, Umbreon, Plusle, Minun, Volbeat, Illumise, Luvdisc, Latias, Latios and Alomomola to receive five Silver Pinap Berries, one Lucky Egg, and an egg incubator.

Update here. Niantic now really says that the blog post above was wrong. The rewards are three Silver Pinap Berries, three Rocket Radars and two Charged TMs. Depending on your priorities, this change can be a bore or a victory.

Bonus Higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends with your friends. Greater chance that the Pokémon you trade will become Lucky Pokémon Trade. Range increased to 40 km. Greater chance of receiving Berries as gifts.

This continues since the previous Lunar New Year event, and man, it’s incredible that they did it. Although the events were somewhat discreet, leading to the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto, bonuses like this help a lot to make it worth playing.
