The latest insider leak states that Microsoft is seeking the acquisition of Techland and with it exclusivity for Dying Light 2.
Last year, Microsoft made its biggest gaming-related acquisition to date, choosing ZeniMax Media and its subsidiaries like Bethesda. It was just the latest in a series of high-profile studio acquisitions to bolster the future line of Xbox Series X games. However, even when the ZeniMax deal was being finalized, Microsoft made it clear that it would continue to pursue aggressively. future acquisitions. And a new leak could reveal that Microsoft’s next target is the Polish-based Techland team.
As many know, rumors about Microsoft’s effort to acquire a studio in Poland have been running in late 2019. No specific acquisitions or studios were mentioned along the way, however. Now the rumor has returned with a clear focus.
YouTuber Jeremy “ACG” Penter said on the Defining Duke podcast that Microsoft is trying to buy an exclusive 2021 video game. In the process, Microsoft will also acquire the developer / publisher. ACG, however, does not specifically say Techland.
The additional detail comes from a second insider / leaker who meets Shpeshal Ed on Twitter. Shpeshal Ed says that after “searching”, they found out that ACG is talking about Techland. The video game to which ACG refers is also considered Dying Light 2. Shpeshal Ed doesn’t make that statement for sure, it should be clear.
So the studio and the game that ACG was referring to … I did some research and asked around. I’m pretty sure he’s talking about Techland and Dying Light 2

The rumor, in short, is that Microsoft is looking for or has already made an agreement to acquire Techland and perhaps an exclusive console agreement for Dying Light 2 in the process. The leaks make it unclear whether Microsoft is still looking for a deal or whether a deal has already been closed. Finally, these leaks offer no convincing sources or evidence for their leaks. ACG’s predictions have a mixed history, but Shpeshal Ed has made several accurate leaks in the past.
Perhaps not coincidentally, there are other rumors that may be linked to this acquisition, if true. For example, in January, Techland mentioned that Dying Light 2 news would come soon. Another rumor says that there is an Xbox event not yet announced in mid-February.
For now, Xbox and Dying light fans would be better served to maintain a healthy amount of skepticism. Microsoft is likely to make new acquisitions in the future, but not all rumors or alleged leaks will be accurate. If Dying Light 2 the news will really come soon, fans will know the truth about Techland’s acquisition in a matter of weeks or months.
Dying Light 2 is currently under development.
