The strangest fighters in company history

WWE was not ashamed to create a colorful cast of characters in the past, but at times, fighters were given personas that were beyond pale in the strange paths they took. From killer clowns to fighters named “Booger” and more than a few fighters with a “chicken theme”, we thought of taking the opportunity to break some of the most insane fighters to make appearances in the organization’s past.

Recently, professional fighter Lars Sullivan debuted an original design that he was supposed to debut in “Brilliant Behemoth”, a character that looked more like Mr. Hyde than anything we had seen before. Although Lars is no longer part of the WWE having left the world of wrestling, we imagine that there will be many more crazy fighters going down the spike.

Who do you think is the craziest fighter that has appeared in WWE history? Who is the craziest wrestler in the organization’s cast? Feel free to let us know in the comments or contact me directly on Twitter @EVComedy to talk about comics, anime and the world of professional wrestling.

Gobbledy Gooker

In what must be one of the strangest ideas in WWE history, Gobbledy Gooker was promoted as a mysterious part of Survivor Seriesemerging from an egg and making a jig in the square circle. Although he was not originally introduced as a fighter, he has become one of the most recent Survivor Series who saw him become the hilarious champion 24/7 after a surprise attack on R Truth. An ironic story about this strange creature is that the Undertaker appeared in the same Survivor Series Yes.

Red Rooster

If you thought there was only one chicken-based fighter in the stables at World Wrestling Entertainment, you would be wrong. Terry Taylor received a strange transformation that he renamed “Red Rooster”, not only giving him a new outfit and hairstyle, but also changing his mannerisms and movements to reflect those of the wild bird. Needless to say, Red Rooster was not a timeless character in WWE history, but he is definitely noteworthy.

The Bushwhackers

I dare you to try to imagine the Bushwhackers appearing in the WWE today, with their usual modus operandi licking a good part of the public with whom they would come in contact while advancing into the ring. World Wrestling Entertainment’s past had some truly bizarre fighters who were linked to other countries, with the Bushwhackers linked to New Zealand, and other fighters like The Mountie and the “Wild Samoans” making bizarre appearances. Needless to say, the Bushwhackers are perhaps the most popular fighters you will see on this list.

Bastion Booger

At one point, WWE wondered, “What if we created a trick for a fighter to make him the most disgusting human being in the world?” Type Bastion Booger. In addition to using moves that would disgust anyone who watched them, Mike Shaw entered the ring with one of the strangest themed songs you could imagine, which you can actually check out above. Ironically, his previous WWE personality was perhaps as strange as he was displayed as a “Mad Monk” known as “Friar”.

The Repo Man

Barry Allen Darsow was actually Smash from the popular WWE tag team known as Demolition, but he also put on a mask and entered the ring sneaking down and stealing everything he could as the “Repo Man”. One of the strangest ideas, when it came to these bizarre people, was the idea that they just fell into the wrestling game, with Repo Man apparently being a McDonald’s Hamburglar-like thief who happened to be a fighter to help get to he more and more material goods.

The Warlord

Terry Szopinski during his heyday as part of World Wrestling Entertainment, then the World Wrestling Federation, was a fierce fighter, being muscular for a time when fighters were known for their giant muscles in the 1980s. What made Warlord so strange was his ring suit that would be a Mad Max style mask, half metal mask on his face, wielding a cane with a giant W. While some fighters like Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow made their weird appearances work, Warlord was weird just because it was weird.

Doink The Clown

Matt Osborn’s trick as an evil fighting clown is strange enough in itself, but the character’s longevity is almost as strange. Doink the Clown was not only a WWE trademark, he also made an appearance in Extreme Championship Wrestling. Doink did not steal a page from the Joker in his nefarious, instead he would simply wear the uniform during his fights and harm him during his entrances to the ring.
