North Carolina returns to the court after an unexpected week off with a trip to ACC leading to Virginia.
Tar Heels beat Duke by four last Saturday night, winning for the fourth time in five games. Carolina was scheduled to play against Miami on Monday night, but several players and coaches from the team came together to celebrate after Duke’s victory. People outside the team bubble attended, however, and the video for the event surfaced.
Faced with the possibility that someone on the Tar Heel team was exposed to COVID, and with less than 48 hours of return, Miami felt uncomfortable moving forward with Monday’s game, which was postponed.
The Tar Heels have no one quarantined or suspended. Coach Roy Williams said the discipline for the incident was “internal” and “adequate” and that Tar Heels would be in full force for the game in Virginia.
The Heels need to be in their game to face the Cavaliers, who left after an unstable 4-2 start to the year. Virginia has won 10 of 11 games and leads ACC with 10-1, 14-3 overall.
Carolina has struggled to defend all three this season, and Virginia is the eighth most accurate three-point shooting team in the country. Roy Williams said his big men would have to go to the arc to defend the perimeter against big UVA men Jay Huff and Sam Hauser, who hit more than 42 percent in three.
