The Pittsburgh Steelers already have two Watt brothers on their team. TJ Watt is your award-winning defensive student, Derek Watt was the acquisition of the free agent in 2020, but could there be a third Watt joining the team?
Of course, now, everyone has heard about JJ Watt and the Houston Texans agreeing to part ways. When that news hit social media, you know what the rumors started.
“Expect JJ to join TJ and Derek in Pittsburgh.”
The Steelers don’t have much room for a salary cap, but after the retirements of Vance McDonald and Maurkice Pouncey, along with the 2020 rollover cap, their situation suddenly doesn’t look so dire.
Depending on Ben Roethlisberger’s future, the Steelers could still free up some wage cap space to do a maneuver or two in the free agent market. It is worth mentioning that, as Watt was launched, he can sign with a team whenever he wants.
According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, several teams have already contacted Watt, and the Steelers are one of them.
From NFL sources
NFL sources: Approximately a dozen teams have shown an interest in JJ Watt since he became an immediate unrestricted free agent. Included among these teams are the # Thieves, #Browns, #Accounts and #Titans.

For those who are wondering how fast a deal could be made with Watt, consider how long it took for news of his release and the teams mentioned above to get in touch. In other words, not long.
However, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Watt will at least take the weekend off before really diving into the options. Fowler made a point of mentioning that Watt wanted to go to a team that is seen as a candidate.
With JJ Watt officially released today, he can start receiving calls from NFL teams. They said Watt wants to spend the weekend before researching potential options. Going for a candidate will be important.

Anyway, it looks like the Steelers are at least showing interest. Why? Because of course they would like to have the chance to have the entire Watt family in their organization. If the team fails to win everything, at least it will have the Watt family’s publicity behind it.
Either way, stay tuned to BTSC for the latest news and notes on black and gold as they prepare for the new year of the league, NFL Free Agency and the NFL Draft 2021.
