This week in Dezeen, IKEA launched its first line of PC gaming furniture and we created a guide on wood in architecture, interiors and design.
Created in collaboration with the popular hardware brand Republic of Gamers, IKEA’s collection of tables, chairs and accessories is designed to make professional player configurations more accessible.
“The needs of billions of players around the world are very diverse, while the existing offering is very technical and often perceived as a masculine design, despite the fact that about 46 percent of the players are women,” said Ewa Rychert, business leader global workspace at IKEA.

A largely digital version of Stockholm Design Week took place this week, which was visited by a hologram version of British designer Tom Dixon.
We bring together 10 of the best projects from the Greenhouse showcase of emerging talent, while her Misschiefs exhibition features “a more punk side of Swedish design”.

In New York, residents of the 432 Park Avenue skyscraper, designed by Rafael Viñoly, reported several problems, including flooding and getting stuck in elevators.
Also in the city, architecture studio Skidmore Owings and Merrill revealed its plans to build a supertal skyscraper on the site of Donald Trump’s former Grand Hyatt hotel.

In other architectural news, three British studios have unveiled a series of future projects. Grimshaw revealed the looks of his latest barn-shaped ventilation shaft for the UK’s HS2 high-speed rail.
Zaha Hadid Architects is designing an exhibition center in Beijing that has a rooftop landscape that follows the example of the roofs of traditional Chinese architecture. And Foster + Partners has revealed images of a resort that will be built on an island in Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.

As the impact of Brexit continues to be felt in the UK, the designers told Dezeen that “everything has become an administrative nightmare” with companies abandoning exports and opening offices in the European Union (EU) to avoid losing customers.
Also as a “direct response” to the UK’s exit from the EU, architecture firm Rogers Stirk Harbor + Partners announced its decision to open an office in Paris.

Popular projects this week included a house lined with charred pine on the coast of Chile, a house in India with an egg-shaped garden temple and a steel hut in Lithuania.
This week’s lookbook focused on cozy living rooms that place the fireplace in the center of the room.
