New York resigns from NRA bankruptcy case

DALLAS (AP) – New York state lawyers asked a bankruptcy judge on Friday to reject the National Rifle Association’s bankruptcy case, saying the case was dismissed in bad faith.

In a 41-page petition filed with the Dallas bankruptcy court, New York lawyers asked U.S. bankruptcy judge Harlin DeWayne Hale to appoint a Chapter 11 administrator if the total dismissal was denied.

The state claims that the NRA filed for bankruptcy while claiming to be solvent and “in its best financial condition in years,” according to the petition.

The NRA filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after the New York attorney general filed a lawsuit to seek the organization’s dissolution. It also announced plans to move its New York headquarters and incorporate it into arms-friendly Texas.

A message requesting NRA comments on the process was not immediately returned.
