Bitcoin integration in Miami moves forward – Bitcoin Magazine

In a Twitter video posted last night, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced that city commissioners supported his resolution to explore the possibility for residents to pay city taxes or property taxes in bitcoin, allowing city officials cities receive bitcoin compensation and giving Miami the opportunity to invest in bitcoin.

“I want to thank the Miami City Commissioners for supporting my resolution, which guides a municipal administrator, after review, to hire a supplier to be able to offer our employees a percentage of their bitcoin salary, allowing our residents to pay for bitcoin fees. and it would also allow the city administrator to cooperate with Miami’s accounting to allow tax payments in bitcoin, ”said the mayor. “The city of Miami supports efforts to make bitcoin an acceptable currency for us to invest in the future.”

First, it was retail investors, then institutional investors, and now, big cities are looking to park their wealth in bitcoin security. Suarez’s actions, especially if they are successful, can significantly divert bitcoin to similar cities and make it look like a more “legitimate” investment.

The mayor ended the video saying that “it is wonderful to be a very crypto-advanced city in the city of Miami”.

The video became semiviral, with more than 1.4 million views, almost 5,000 retweets and 13,400 likes at the time of writing this article. It is likely to garner even more engagement at the beginning of the weekend.

In an indicator that this trend will be growing, former presidential candidate Andrew Yang announced on Twitter that he would work to make New York City a center for Bitcoin if he won a mayoral candidacy there. US Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming commented on the message, apparently criticizing the city’s restrictive Bitlicense regulations.

Earlier this month, the Bitcoin 2021 conference announced that it was moving to Miami after receiving support from Mayor Suarez to host the event.
