DETROIT – People still have a lot of doubts about the COVID-19 vaccines. Dr. Frank McGeorge of Local 4 is working to answer as many as possible.

Is it safe for the elderly to meet at home? Yes, but it is all about risk tolerance and you must understand the risks compared to the benefits of meeting with vaccinated friends.
No vaccine is 100% effective. There will always be a chance that a vaccinated person will be infected. The good news is that even if you are infected, the chances of developing a serious illness are much less.

In addition, if everyone gets vaccinated, the chances of someone in the group spreading the virus are also less.
The biggest wildcard is that we don’t know exactly how long someone is protected after vaccination. Over time, we will have better control of the exact risk, but for now, the safest thing to do is to keep wearing masks.
In practical terms, it is reasonably safe and you should not worry about activities without a mask, such as eating, if everyone is vaccinated.
There have been studies of the Calmette-Guerin bacillus vaccine – which was given in other parts of the world against tuberculosis – it can have a protective impact against the coronavirus, but at the moment, the data are not convincing enough to even remotely suggest that it would be a substitute for the specific COVID vaccines that have been developed.
We do not know. The answer will depend on whether other vaccines – like Johnson & Johnson’s – are allowed, whether Pfizer and Moderna vaccines can increase production or not and how many people in the groups ahead choose to be vaccinated.
