As vaccine distribution increases across the bay area, eligible individuals are now able to register for a free coronavirus vaccine consultation at some CVS locations, with vaccinations starting on Friday.

CVS said it is offering the vaccine “at no cost with most insurance plans or through a federal program for the uninsured.” On Thursday, CVS reported that pharmacies are vaccinating only health professionals and individuals aged 65 and over.

The pharmacy chain has postponed the vaccination start date previously announced from Thursday to Friday to “ensure availability in the store,” the company announced on Monday.

The launch is part of a launch in more than a dozen states to distribute about 250,000 total doses through the federal government. About 81,900 doses will go to California.

Bay Area residents can check availability and sign up for a consultation at CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app. Individuals without online access can contact CVS Customer Service at 1-800-746-7287. CVS said that walk-ins will not be vaccinated.

“As active stores will change regularly based on the vaccine supply, CVS Health will not provide a complete list of participating locations,” said the company.

Additional CVS locations will transport the COVID-19 vaccine as the supply becomes more available, said CVS.
