WandaVision Featurette promises a fight for Westview’s fate

Wanda has created her own paradise on WandaVision, and a new promotional video reveals that she and Vision are willing to fight to keep it going.

Wanda Maximoff has made the city of Westview his personal paradise in WandaVision, and a new promotional video for the series shows that she and Vision will do whatever it takes to keep it that way.

A one-minute short film posted by Marvel Entertainment shows past and future clips from the series interspersed with comments from the cast and crew. The promotion reinforces the notion that there may be even more in Westview than anyone has ever seen.

“It was really fun to play all these different decades over WandaVision“says Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda on the show.

“And then, of course, everything kind of breaks down and becomes an MCU version of the real world,” adds Paul Bettany, who plays Vision.

The series began as an apparent homage to classic sitcoms on American TV, such as The Dick Van Dyke Show and I love Lucy. As the show progressed, however, he revealed that the evolving facade of the sitcom was a form of manipulation of reality created by Wanda itself, and that the city and its residents are under Wanda’s control. Wanda, however, is not necessarily ready to admit it to herself.

“I can’t believe how it continues to unfold and unfold in ways that still leave me shocked and emotional,” said Kathryn Hahn, who plays Wanda and Vision’s neighbor Agnes. In the most recent episode, “On a Very Special Episode …”, Agnes seems to indirectly recognize Wanda’s control over Westview.

“Every day is different,” says director Matt Shakman. “It’s a high-tech Marvel with helicopters flying around, and the next day, it’s a perfect recreation of a 1950s sitcom. In a few days, it’s both.”

In the most recent episode, SWORD Acting Director Tyler Hayward, played by Josh Stamberg, and Agent Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris, confront Wanda outside the protective “Hex” she has erected around the city. Wanda gives a severe warning: to be left alone.

This will probably not happen, as near the end of the video, a clip from an upcoming episode shows Wanda proclaiming, “This is our home”.

“So let’s fight for it,” says Vision.

“I think it will be very rewarding for people when they realize what is at the heart of this show,” concludes Bettany.

Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as Vision, Randall Park as agent Jimmy Woo, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kathryn Hahn as Agnes. New episodes air on Fridays on Disney +.
