A good number of Galaxy S21 owners are complaining about the low battery life in the Reddit and some other forums, and the February 2021 security patch that started rolling out last week may be to blame.
All customer complaints come from people who have the Exynos variant, although it should be emphasized that the problem probably stems from the software, not Samsung’s new hardware. And according to some users, the battery may be discharging at an accelerated rate due to a problem with the phone’s connectivity. According to the affected owners of the Galaxy S21, battery life falls within normal parameters when flight mode is activated.
There seem to be many complaints related to the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 + in particular, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra is hardly mentioned. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm exactly how this problem occurs and affects the Galaxy S21 Ultra, as none of our Galaxy S21 models with Exynos have been hit by this problem.
As we mentioned in our review of the Galaxy S21 +, the battery life is not out of this world, but it is decent. The Galaxy S21 Ultra left a much more positive impression with battery life that is surprisingly good, even with 120Hz enabled. The basic model of the Galaxy S21, however, has an average battery life that is not impressive.
Samsung is aware of the problems and is working to correct them
Samsung is apparently aware of these unwanted symptoms that affect the Galaxy S21 series after the update and, according to the Norwegian technology blog Tek.no, the company is working on a new firmware update that should resolve the issues.
The company has not released a deadline, but it is possible that the March 2021 security patch will fix these new battery life issues, assuming that a hotfix will not be released before. For now, we advise Galaxy S21 owners to avoid the February 2021 security patch, if possible, until problems are resolved.
