A comment from the official Project CARS Twitter account seems to have largely ruled out a dedicated launch on “next generation” consoles for CARS 3 Project.
The post came in response to a question from a fan on the subject, and while it does not openly exclude the possibility, the careful wording seems to strongly suggest that a PS5 or Xbox Series version of PC3 it just isn’t in the current SMS plans.
Of course, very few PS4 / XB1 titles of any kind have specific PS5 or XSS / XSX game updates or versions – about 60 in total – and of those only three driving games have this functionality: DIRT 5; Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox only); and WRC 9. FH4 it is strange, since it is more than two years old, but also an original title that Microsoft would have wanted for the marketing of the new console. Yet CARS 3 Project was released a few weeks after the other two titles last year, so fans may be a little disappointed that there is no state-of-the-art version in the works.
Of course, if you want to play PC3 on the Xbox Series or PS5 console, you can. The new consoles support the game through backward compatibility and fans report that the new consoles already improve the experience. This is not surprising – when we test GT Sport on a PS5 in November, we found that the game ran the same way as on the PS4 Pro, but with faster loading speeds. Your PC3 experience is likely to be similar, with consoles running at the highest possible resolutions and frame rates; you will not experience the varied talents of the DualSense controller.
Ultimately, this means that players who want the full Xbox Series or PS5 experience with a Project CARS game will have to wait until PC4. Fortunately, we know that this is already underway, according to SMS studio head Ian Bell, and will be done with support from EA.
