California man testing positive for COVID-19 weeks after second jab: report

A California man said he was diagnosed with COVID-19 three weeks after receiving his second dose of the vaccine, according to reports.

CBS Los Angeles reported that Gary Micheal, who lives in Lake Forest, Orange County, discovered he had the virus after being tested for an unrelated health problem. Its symptoms are relatively minor, the report said.

He received the Pfizer vaccine, the report said. Patch.com reported that he received his first dose on December 28 and his second injection on January 18.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease scientist, said the latest evidence indicates that the two vaccines used in the United States – Pfizer and Moderna – are effective even against the new variants.

A doctor interviewed in the CBS report said he was not surprised to hear about Michael’s diagnosis.

“I think I have heard of six or seven independent cases in the past three weeks of individuals who have been vaccinated at different times with positive tests and I think we will continue to see this more and more,” Dr. Tirso del Junco Jr., medical director at KPC Health, told the station.

Fauci estimated that somewhere between 70% and 85% of the US population needs to be inoculated to prevent the pandemic that killed some 470,000 Americans.
