Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) on Wednesday night objected to the portrait of an accidental phone call from then President Donald Trump, plunging the Senate chamber into confusion on the second day of Trump’s impeachment trial.
Rising as Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), The manager of the Main House, moved to end the discussion by Thursday, Lee asked that a characterization of the call be deleted from the register, claiming it was inaccurate.
Trump called Lee on January 6, the day of the Capitol uprising, but intended to call Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Wing.). Lee told Deseret News last month about the call Trump and said he had passed the phone on to Tuberville when he realized that Trump had called him by mistake. Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, also left a voicemail aimed at Tuberville that day to gather support for Trump’s election disputes, but he also accidentally called Lee.
