Casey Bloys Discusses a Potential TV Spinoff Series – Deadline

Potterheads was waving his wands of excitement last month when the possibility of a derived TV series Harry Potter universe has emerged.

Last month, sources told Deadline that HBO Max held “exploratory conversations” about a small-screen adaptation of JK Rowling’s books and the film franchise.

But today, Casey Bloys, director of content for HBO and HBO Max, told Deadline that it was too early. He said there were no writers attached, adding “I wouldn’t even say it’s embryonic at the moment”.

However, he admitted that owning the franchise, which spawned 11 films and a theme park, was a blessing for WarnerMedia.

“There is nothing in development, but I think it is fair to say that Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and DC, these are franchises that WarnerMedia likes and is a big advantage for us, so there will always be an interest in doing something quality with these properties, ”he told Deadline.

A television spin-off makes sense for WarnerMedia given the adulation that Rowling’s books enjoy and the news came after Warner Bros. appointed Kids, Young Adult and Classics President Tom Ascheim to manage the Wizarding World franchises and Potter.

There were also rumors last year that a series focused on the younger version of Albus Dumbledore’s Jude Law was being discussed, although it looks like it may have been premature.

Any potential Harry Potter The TV series would have to be done with the blessing of Rowling and her team, who have creative approval on any exploration of the Harry Potter IP, including on TV.
