NFL rumors: Texans apparently will not trade Deshaun Watson for Eagles for Carson Wentz – and would only make a deal with the Jets

The Texans will not trade quarterback Deshaun Watson for the Eagles for Carson Wentz, who may be traded very soon. And if the Texans negotiate Watson, it will only be for the Jets, if they want to leave Sam Darnold.

John McClain of The Houston Chronicle mentioned these two nuggets during an appearance on Houston’s SportsRadio 610. (You can hear it below.)

Here’s what he said about the Texans and Watson:

“They don’t call teams. The teams call them. And they told everyone that they are not changing Watson. It does not mean that they will not do that eventually. I guarantee that if they did, it wouldn’t be for Carson Wentz and the Eagles.

“And they said it publicly, they said privately that they are not negotiating Watson. And then anyone who says that they called the Eagles is not true. If they negotiated it, it would be [to] the Jets. So no, they didn’t contact anyone about Watson’s exchange.

As McClain mentioned, there is certainly a possibility that Watson could still be negotiated with dysfunctional Texans – although new general manager Nick Caserio and new coach David Culley have said publicly that they don’t want to negotiate and have no intention of doing so. That kind of thing can change, of course, with the right offer.
