NFL rumors: Bears and Colts not just teams who called about Carson Wentz

In the past few days, the Colts and the Bears have clearly emerged as the two main potential landing sites for Carson Wentz, but it appears that some other teams are at least watching.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was on the John Kincade Show at 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday morning and was asked about the interest of other teams.

“That’s what I can say,” said Schefter. “The Bears and Colts are not the only teams, by far, that have called about Carson Wentz. Now, is there a team that is willing to go up? I don’t know the answer to that. I do not know. Is there a team waiting? I do not know. I know they got enough interest from enough teams.

“I would say that there are, that I can count on, that I know, at least two or three other teams that have called. It doesn’t mean they are in or out, but they called to see what they would need. And you wait to see if one of them will take hold in the end or not. “

OK, so how real is this? It is difficult to know. Because, of course, the teams make calls, but that doesn’t let us know your level of interest in Wentz. However, it seems possible that there is a team keeping an eye on the situation, ready to attack if the price drops a little.

The Colts and Bears are clearly at the top of the list for now, but Mike Kaye of NJ.com reported that the Wentz trading market has cooled down a bit as the Eagles have remained firm at their asking price. That report also says that the Bears are getting impatient with the Eagles.

That takes us to this mailbag from Chicago TribuneBrad Biggs, who was asked if the Bears are “all in” in Wentz. He says they are not because they are keeping their options open.

Biggs also wrote, “I have a feeling the Philadelphia Eagles have been working overtime to spark more interest in Wentz than there really is.”

Yes, that seems likely. Howie Roseman is very good at conquering a market and this is the perfect chance to do it again. On Friday and Saturday, there seemed to be a major boost to trade, but things have since slowed down considerably.

Schefter, on Wednesday morning, defended ESPN’s weekend report that said Wentz’s exchange for Eagles could be this week.

“I still think it could be this week. That does not mean it will be this week, ”he said. “But I still think that it is absolutely a trend towards him being negotiated. I still believe it is being negotiated. Let’s see if it’s today or tomorrow or Friday or next week. But they will negotiate with him. “
