Yahoo Sports NFL editor Terez Paylor dead at 37

Yahoo Sports senior NFL copywriter Terez Paylor died suddenly on Tuesday at the age of 37.

“Although we are shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of Terez Paylor, we are also celebrating his extraordinary life that has moved so many people,” said his bride Ebony Reed in a statement. “Terez was an exceptional journalist whose passion for football made him a respected voice. His legacy will leave a lasting impact on sports journalism, the NFL, Kansas City Chiefs and his fans.

“Most importantly, Terez was a son, grandson, devoted brother, a lovely bride and a wonderful friend to many. To know him was to love him. He will be sorely missed ”.

His cause of death was not immediately revealed.

The Detroit native began his writing career after graduating from Howard University in 2006, working his way from the Kansas City Star sports beat to the Chiefs’ coverage – writing about AFL, MLS and the University of Missouri athletics along the way.

“Hearing the news of Terez’s passing is heartbreaking,” the Chiefs’ communications team said in a statement via Twitter. “He was so young and full of life, he always wanted to do good for people. Many of us in the Chiefs organization have had the opportunity over the years to build a friendship with him, including our players, coaches and team, and he was an incredible person with the right attitude and integrity. He was very proud of his stories, he was also immersed in the Xs and Os and studying films, and we all had the chance to enjoy these conversations with him. In addition, he was always quick to ask about your family and showed a genuine and thoughtful interest in the answer you were giving. He was a true professional and a great man with a bright future ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. “

In 2018, the Professional Football Hall of Fame voter joined Yahoo Sports, where his coverage included the Super Bowl 2021 on Sunday.

“We are heartbroken to learn that our friend and teammate Terez Paylor has passed away,” Yahoo Sports editor-in-chief Johnny Ludden said in a statement. “Terez was an obstinate and thoughtful reporter for many who met him in the NFL. For us, he was a friend who always had a warm smile and a kind word. He cared deeply about his family, was passionate about his work and remained intensely proud of his roots in Detroit and Kansas City. Our solidarity goes to the family of Terez and all who knew and cared. “

Paylor leaves his fiancee Reed and his parents.
