Prepear, a recipe and meal planning app, agreed to change its pear logo to resolve an ongoing trademark dispute with Apple, the co-founder of Prepear confirmed today iPhone in Canada. Apple in August objected to Prepear’s trademark application, claiming that the company’s pear-shaped logo was very similar to Apple’s own logo.
Although the Prepear logo is pear-shaped rather than apple-shaped, Apple seems to have taken offense at the right angle of the Prepear leaf in the original logo. The new logo features a leaf with a different angle, a small change that Apple apparently feels makes it different from the famous Apple logo. The Prepear application icon has also been adjusted.
Following initial trademark opposition, Super Healthy Kids, the parent company of Prepear, launched a petition in an attempt to persuade Apple to give up its opposition to a small company that was trying to protect its logo, and that petition won more than 250,000 signatures . Apple was also widely ridiculed by media sites and fans for pursuing the Prepear logo.
In December, the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office requested that trial proceedings be suspended for 30 days, as Prepear and Apple were “actively involved in negotiations for the agreement “on the issue.
Prepear’s CEO says the trademark issue has now been “resolved amicably” and that Prepear is happy with the result.
