Adobe is leaning a little more towards the benefits of a cloud-based architecture with the release of an easy collaboration button and asynchronous editing in Photoshop, Illustrator and Fresco. The “Invite to edit” button is available starting today.
The update allows for asynchronous editing on all supported surfaces (iPad, iPhone and desktop) via the newly added Invite to edit button, located on the application task bar in the upper right corner. Although it does not allow multiple people to edit a document at the same time, it makes collaboration much easier.
After updating Photoshop to the latest version, clicking the Invite to Edit button first will prompt you to save the document in the cloud, which will allow you and others to access it on multiple devices.
The next screen prompts you to save the document and will also display any other documents in the cloud that you may have. After uploading the file, adding a collaborator is as easy as inviting them by email.
An interesting side effect of using this feature is that any file saved as a document in the cloud does not appear to allow you to easily save it to your machine. The “Save as” feature appeared in a different window than the typical one and did not seem to allow an easy way to save a version on a local machine.
In addition to the collaboration feature, Adobe added Preset Sync in Photoshop to the desktop, which allows you to sync brushes, swatches, gradients, patterns, styles and shapes from your Adobe Creative Cloud account to any desktop you currently find.
The addition of these features is now available through an update of the Creative Cloud application on the desktop and through an update of the application on iPad and iOS.
