Apple will replace these MacBook Pro batteries for free if they do not exceed one percent

Apple launched a new free battery replacement program for the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pros that doesn’t charge more than one percent. The problem affects “a very small number of customers,” according to Apple.

If the battery is affected, you will see a “Recommended service” message when checking the battery status. “If the status indicates that your battery is Normal, it has not been affected by this problem,” says Apple.

To start replacing the battery, contact Apple support. The company will examine your Mac before performing maintenance to “check that it qualifies for a free battery replacement,” says Apple.

Earlier on Tuesday, Apple released macOS Big Sur 11.2.1, which is also intended to help fix billing issues with some 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pros. Apple recommends upgrading your computer to this or the update supplementary to macOS Catalina 10.15.7.
