“Lagos – for when you make a mess you didn’t want to.”
Episode 5 of WandaVision came out last Friday and WHEW you guys, it was a LOT.
Marvel Studios
I’m sorry, but I’m still processing THAT surprise cameo 👀.
Amid all the chaos that unfolded in Westview, the commercial break for this episode was a little more enigmatic than the ones we’ve seen before, and MUCH darker. Let’s break it down, okay?
The commercial is for a brand of paper towels called “Lagos”. You must remember Lagos as the location of the opening fight scene in Captain America Civil War.
At the end of that fight, Brock Rumlow (Crossbones) planned to blow himself up and Captain America. Luckily for them, Wanda acted quickly to contain the explosion, keeping Steve and the people nearby safe.
Unfortunately for everyone else, however, Wanda directed the blast to a nearby building, destroying it and killing civilians inside.
Back to WandaVision commercial, one of the children drops a blood-red drink. You could say that she has “blood on her hands” with this mess that needs to be cleaned, or something like that.
The commercial isn’t just for Wanda, however. The husband in the commercial drops a glass of beer, because husbands can also have “accidents”.
Now, Vision is usually a pretty decent guy. That said, he still made some ~ messes ~ on his own. Also in Civil war, The sight mistakenly hit Rhodey Rhodes instead of Sam Wilson during the big fight scene at the airport. This is what resulted in Rhodey’s paralysis at the end of the film.
The commercial ends with the ever-obscure slogan “Lagos – for when you make a mess that was not on purpose.” Uh yes, you could definitely say that.
It certainly made me cry out, “oh my god, oh my god!” on my TV, and it looks like I wasn’t alone there.
This fan also raised a good question about how much control Wanda really has in her sitcom when commercials like this are on the air.
Wow, what an episode! We look forward to some even smarter responses and commercials next time!
