Good night and welcome to the NCWLIFE Evening News. I’m Grant Olson. Before we get to the main news today, let’s take a quick look outside the window of time:
And now, some of the stories we are following for you tonight, a Wenatchee man faces a possible charge of trafficking in stolen property, after allegedly trying to sell wiring taken from a construction site. Wenatchee police had an unusually successful weekend in capturing alleged car bums, and a real estate developer who tried to poison a rival’s trees in 2014 had his felony conviction unoccupied.
But first, we start tonight. . .
A 15-year-old girl had to be rescued after she slipped off a rock while taking pictures at the top of Mountain Home Road outside Leavenworth.
The Chelan County sheriff’s office said the teenager slid down the hill more than 36 meters before hitting a tree that prevented her from falling to the bottom. Rescuers with the high angle rope rescue team from the sheriff’s office rushed over to her and treated her injuries before hoisting her up on a stretcher. The condition for the girl was not available on Monday, but the sheriff’s office on Saturday said the girl was in terrible shape, but credited the rope rescue team for saving her life.
A Wenatchee man faces a possible charge of trafficking in stolen property after allegedly trying to sell wiring taken from a construction site. Jason Nicholas Corning, 51, was arrested last week by Wenatchee police and then released on $ 10,000 bail.
Construction supervisors at Grace City Church in Sunnyslope said someone cut the electrical cable that led to one of their trailers at the site earlier this month, and police said that Corning later sold $ 80 worth of wires to match the material. stolen at a local recycling center. Corning may also face charges of third-degree theft and malicious damage.
The Wenatchee police had an exceptionally successful weekend catching alleged car bums. In all, four people were arrested in the early morning rounds of Saturday and Sunday, and all were caught thanks to the items they are accused of stealing. Captain Edgar Reinfeld of the Wenatchee Police Department explains. . .
A real estate developer who tried to poison a rival’s trees in 2014 had his conviction for the crime overturned. 52-year-old Ted Schroth [SHROW-th], an owner-developer Bellevue of Chelan Lookout, heaped salt around the base of 123 young poplars belonging to a neighboring housing development. He pleaded guilty to malicious second-degree harm and was sentenced to 45 days in prison.
He was able to request that his conviction be purged after five years without further criminal convictions, and on Friday, Chelan County Court Commissioner Scott Volyn complied. Volyn also agreed to restore Schroth’s right to own a firearm. In addition to the prison sentence, Schroth was ordered to pay more than $ 156,000 to the tree owners.

Welcome back, and in other news. . .
Okanogan County reported another death from COVID-19 in a nursing home late last week, bringing the county’s total virus deaths to 34.
The latest death was a resident of the Regency Harmony House in Brewster. Nearly half of COVID-19 deaths in the county were connected to long-term care institutions, with 12 deaths in a home in Tonasket after an outbreak in late November.
Washington hospitals and suppliers discovered on Saturday that many of the N95 masks they wear every day can be counterfeit. 3M Manufacturing warned of fake masks in the supply chain and more than 40 hospitals across the state soon realized they had fake masks in their inventory. But Cassie Sauer of the Washington State Hospital Association said that Washington hospitals had purchased hundreds of thousands of these masks, many of which were never used. . .
Lake Chelan Health confirmed today that it has received a shipment of counterfeit masks. However, the masks were never distributed to caregivers and have since been removed from the hospital’s inventory. Other health systems, including Confluence Health, did not immediately respond to questions from NCWLIFE. US Homeland Security is investigating the fraud.
Ski races returned to the lowland area over the weekend after being virtually closed since the COVID-19 pandemic began almost a year ago.
Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue hosted the races on Sunday, which attracted more than 100 children. The race was modified with socially distant time trials, replacing the usual face-to-face competition.
The Snoqualmie Pass was a tricky mess on Sunday, the busiest travel day of the week. Chains were required on all four-wheel-drive vehicles until Monday morning, after more than 22 inches of snow fell over the weekend.
Several spin-outs and jackknifing semifinals led to the closing of both directions on the interstate at about 1:45 pm on Sunday, but the teams managed to clean up the vehicles and reopen the ticket in less than half an hour.
