Andy Reid of the Chiefs talks about the Britt Reid accident that left a girl seriously injured: ‘My heart bleeds’

While the Kansas City Chiefs played in the Super Bowl LV, the controversy surrounding the fall of coach Britt Reid, who left a 5-year-old girl seriously injured, was weighing on the back of many minds.

Britt Reid, the Chiefs’ external linebacker and son of coach Andy Reid, was involved in a multi-car accident on Thursday night that left the child seriously injured. Reid was under investigation after telling the police that he had been drinking and had a prescription for Adderall, according to FOX4 KC.

While CBS Sports host Jim Nantz offered his condolences for the end of the Chiefs’ 3-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Andy Reid was asked about the accident. The Chiefs, up to this point, just said they were discovering more information about the accident and that the technician stayed at home.

“My heart goes out to everyone who was involved in the accident, in particular the family with the girl who is fighting for her life,” said Reid, via ESPN. “I can’t comment on this any more than what I’m here for. So as for the questions you have, I will have to reject them; but, only from a human point of view, my heart bleeds for everyone involved in it.”

Reid was also asked whether the accident was a distraction.

“We put the game plan in the previous week. The distraction was not a distraction with regard to the game plan. That was already defined and how we were going to work with it and move on,” he added. “From a human point of view, it’s difficult. From a football point of view, I don’t think it was a problem.”

FAMILY OF THE FALLEN CAPITOLA POLICE BRIAN SICKNICK, THREE OTHER GUESTS HONORED AT SUPER BOWL LV: REPORTS

A relative of the young woman, identified in a GoFundMe as Ariel, gave the update days after Britt Reid was involved in a multicar accident. Two children were injured in the wreckage that occurred near Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night, but it was the 5-year-old boy who was seriously injured.

“Ariel, 5, suffered from swelling and bleeding in and around the brain. She is in critical condition and has not woken up since the accident,” said the GoFundMe page.

“Ariel will be in the hospital for the foreseeable future, this is done for hospital bills and lost work weeks to come. No child deserves to go through this, nor should any mother have to see her child like that.”

The fund was created to help cover medical expenses and raised nearly $ 150,000 as of Sunday.

Reid, 35, was under investigation for driving impaired in Kansas City, Missouri, after police said he was involved in a multiple-car accident near Arrowhead Stadium, FOX4 KC reported.

The police station obtained police documents that corresponded to the details of the accident. The documents say that Reid told the police that he was driving a truck involved in the accident and told a police officer that he had between two and three drinks and had an Adderall prescription. The police said that no names were identified in the police report.

The accident occurred near the south ramp of I-435, according to FOX4 KC. A Chevrolet Impala driver ran out of gas and asked for help on the ramp, police said. The police report said the emergency lights were flashing, but the car’s battery was starting to die when a family arrived in a Chevrolet Traverse and parked near them with their headlights on.

The station reported, citing accident documents, that a white Dodge truck was traveling south on the ramp to reach the interstate when the driver hit the Impala and hit Traverse from behind.

The Impala driver was inside the car at the time of the accident and was not injured, and two adults at Traverse were also unhurt, according to the station.

It didn’t look like Reid was injured in the accident.
