The Weeknd was the headliner of the Super Bowl LV Pepsi halftime show. He’s doing something that has never been done before, with the stage set up in the stands next to the pirate ship Raymond James Stadium.
He ended up going to the field, along with his dancers, but there was no stage set up there. The pop star performed some of his biggest hits, as well as some of his deep cuts in this electric performance.
He started the performance in a convertible, with the city lights behind him and the Pepsi logos behind him. He incorporated lights, fog and fireworks to amplify his performance.

He didn’t have a surprise guest, probably to avoid close contact and keep him safe during the pandemic.
The setup was partly thanks to The Weeknd himself, who gave millions of his own money to ensure that the performance was the vision he wanted.
In triggering the performance, The Weeknd said that part of the reason they made the change was for security reasons.
“Due to COVID and the safety of players and workers, we built the stage inside the stadium and we are also using the pitch, but we wanted to do something that we have never done before.” he said. “So, we built the stage at the stadium, but I’m not going to say anything else, because you’re going to have to watch it on Sunday.”
