Rasmussen Center available for vaccine marking

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – Consultations are filling up quickly at the four vaccination clinics in Douglas County this month.

As of Saturday, most vacancies available for residents of Douglas County aged 75 and over are February 20 and 27 at the Rasmussen Center in Creighton near 17th and Mike Fahey Streets. The Douglas County Department of Health encourages people to enroll in these clinics this month.

“Most vaccination sites are full, but there are more vacancies at the end of February,” the department said in a press release on Friday.

Residents still need to schedule an appointment through the county health department.

Seniors like Mike Collins received their first dose on Saturday. He says it was easy to register online with the help of a family.

“It’s very fast, it’s over and I feel better about it already,” said Collins.

Only a few appointments have been scheduled so far at the Rassmussen Center later this month. Expect students to assist you with the check-in and vaccination process.

“The fact that [students] even seeing and participating in a process of what it’s like to have a mass vaccination clinic is a first, ”said Dr. Mike Miller, director of education and emergency medical services.

The third and final stage of the Rasmussen Center clinic is recovery, typical of vaccination sites. The elderly sit down after receiving the dose and students check them for about 15 minutes to make sure they are not experiencing any side effects or allergic reactions to the vaccine.

Elderly people like Mike Collins have just one more dose until they are fully vaccinated. People are scheduled for the second dose before they leave the facility and go home.

Creighton offers parking and shuttle service to the Rasmussen Center, click here for details.

The Douglas County Department of Health requires residents to register for consultations. None of the clinics accept attendants.

“Camping” for any unused dose is not allowed. Excess doses will go to critical infrastructure workers.
