Second wave of snow to cover the east

A second snowstorm in six days is expected to hit the east on Sunday, hitting a region already hit by a Nor’easter who buried millions in blizzard conditions, meteorologists said.

The storm is expected to develop from Richmond, Virginia, to Washington, DC and Philadelphia, before reaching New York City and New England, according to the National Meteorological Service, adding that it would produce between 10 and 20 centimeters of snow, a fraction the one made by this week’s blizzard.

“Expect dangerous travel conditions on Sunday, with freezing snow and ice on untreated roads and surfaces on Monday morning,” said the weather service.

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo said on Saturday that Covid-19 vaccinations scheduled for Sunday at state-run locations in Stony Brook and Jones Beach would be delayed because of the weather.

“A strong winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, strong winds and potentially dangerous conditions that can impact travel and cause power outages on Long Island,” Cuomo said in a statement.

He ordered state agencies and snow clearers to prepare, adding that parts of New York City and Long Island could receive up to 23 centimeters of snow.

“Do not drive unless necessary,” the governor’s office said in the statement.

New York City’s emergency notification system, Notify NYC, has alerted residents to prepare for possible power outages by keeping their cell phones charged.

The National Weather Service said the storm would leave the area on Monday.
