Patrick Mahomes is playing today at the Super Bowl LV and that is the most important part of how he is dealing with the toe injury. But the Chiefs’ quarterback’s turf toe didn’t go away.
Sources said that after today’s game against the Buccaneers, Mahomes should see a foot specialist and will likely have surgery to repair his sick toe. The expectation is that it will not heal on its own, an indication of how significant the injury is.
Mahomes was listed every day this week in the toe injury report, but he practiced fully. He does not have a game status.
But watch it run and you will see that the toe affects you. With an offensive line as busy as the whole year, mobility will be essential.
A source with direct knowledge of his injury marveled: “It’s amazing how well he looked considering the problem.”
Mahomes also got hurt going to the AFC Championship Game and all he did was 29 of 38 passes for 325 yards with three touchdowns.
Asked this week about his toe, Mahomes said he was “much better”.
“Having these two weeks to let you rest and heal,” said Mahomes, “especially being almost three weeks, more than three weeks away from the injury itself. If you look at these types of injuries, it gives you the normal schedule. . Definitely, every day I get to rest, it gets better. “
