‘SNL’ Cold Open faces the Super Bowl with a social conscience with a little Covid-19 and QAnon released

Tomorrow’s most honest and clumsy CBS Super Bowl LV move may have just happened on NBC Saturday Night Live, perhaps.

“Hello and welcome to the Super Bowl, four hours of television for 11 minutes of action,” he said SNLKenan Thompson as “James, no, not that Brown” sports announcer at the opening of tonight’s show. “As everyone at home knows, this year was anything but normal,” SNL ‘Oldest cast member added with co-stars Chris Redd, Mikey Day and Beck Bennett surrounding him as CBS ‘ NFL Today technical team.

Longer term

However, from then on, as has happened so many times this season, the open biting cold has softened with a round table of several short phrases in search of satire and a sense of humor – and it’s not like the hypocritical and hypersensitive NFL or the the commotion of the Super Bowl itself is hard to mock.

“The pandemic, racial and political divisions, Armie Hammer, but today we come together in a spirit of unity to watch football and kill millions of chickens for their delicious wings,” proclaimed Thompson Brown’s coffeemaker. He then attacked the NFL with a joke about the league having spent the season with “just 700 cases” of Covid-19.

“You know who’s feeling Covid’s restrictions more than anybody this week, the famous Tampa Bay prostitutes,” added Nate Burleson, wearing Redd’s glasses, in a wet noodle from a hit in the Sun State host city of this year’s big socially distant game. In addition, the competitors’ hometown, the Buccaneers and their new QB Tom Brady, the nearly 70,000-person stadium in Tampa Bay will have only about 25,000 masked fans in the stands, of which 7,500 will be vaccinated health workers.

Back SNLThe opening of the cold: there was an “historically delightful” attempt to ridicule the efforts of many advertisers to lean towards the progressive and link up with the civil rights movement and the BLM. On the other hand, “conservatism”, promising “there will be no child sex trafficking”, there was a preview of a fictional QAnon ad imitating Papa Johns pizza and speaking ill of “Pizza Hillary”.

The opening skeleton spiral also weighed in on Viacom’s cross-promotion with Nickelodeon and others. Not that NBC’s own corporate cousins, like Bravo, didn’t share in the shade either, with a simulcast hosted by Andy Cohen entitled “Old Hag, Young Slut”.

The mock title is a kind of tribute to Brady, 43, and Kansas City Chiefs rival QB Patrick Mahomes, 25, if you’re not a football fan. If you weren’t a football fan, the duel and the banal part of the coaches with Aidy Bryant would also have left you cold.

Still, in a sense, tonight was a break from more of the same old man SNL, kind of.

The political body formed almost the entire base of SNLthe company’s return from the hiatus last week and almost all the cold openings of the past few years, with Donald Trump as the toxic core.

Absent tonight and silent since he faced the electoral and constitutional reality and petulantly left the White House on January 20, the first Celebrity Apprentice The host is expected to be in the spotlight in his second impeachment trial, starting on Tuesday.

In the second SNL of the 46th POTUS Joe Biden and the 11th episode of the current 46th season, tonight’s show is hosted by Dan Levy with musical guest Phoebe Bridgers. It’s a debut with the latest iteration of Not Ready For Primetime Players for both Grammy nominees and Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star. Tonight SNL arrives at the end of a turbulent week for Levy. Having made Emmy history last year with big wins in his last season, Schitt’s Creek got several Golden Globe and SAG Awards nominations this week.

All of this makes everything sweeter than the offspring of a SCTV alum (Eugene Levy, who is also in the Schitt’s Creek and made a cameo in his son’s monologue) and another co-star (Catherine O’Hara) is ahead of the former SNL which was created and still managed by a Canadian (Lorne Michaels). SNL over the decades, it has been home to some of the best and brightest in the Great White North (many on both sides of the cameras to name here).
