1st edition Pokémon card set sold at auction for an impressive quantity

A complete set of the first edition of the original Pokémon cards from 1999 was recently sold for an incredible price of $ 666,000. This collection is one of the best-selling in the history of trading collectible cards and serves as a new reference for the ever-increasing sales that have taken place in the Pokémon space in the past year.

The sale itself took place through the Goldin auctions and contained not only all the cards from the 1st edition of the original set, but all were classified in the “Casa da Moeda” condition. If you have no idea what that means, it is essentially the highest possible rating level when it comes to Pokémon cards with the designation “Mint” just below it. Although the differences between the two rating levels are not large on paper, Gem Mint’s rating can end up requiring thousands of dollars more in a potential sale.

The collection’s crown jewel probably came in the form of an exclusive 1st edition Charizard card. In the past, this card alone has been sold by hundreds of thousands. The fact of being added to this larger collection made the whole set much more valuable.

Pokémon cards as a whole increased dramatically in price last year. Part of this is due, in part, to a general resurgence in the interest of longtime fans who wish to purchase some of the cards they had as children. However, those with money to explode, notably content creators, have been really maddened in recent months and shed an even bigger light on the scene. Just last week, YouTuber Logan Paul revealed that he spent an incredible $ 2 million on Pokémon cards, which is certainly something.

It remains to be seen whether this bubble of Pokémon cards will burst or if prices will continue to rise. At the current rate, however, it does not appear that these original 1st edition cards will lose their value anytime soon.
