Final Fantasy XIV is coming to PlayStation 5, developer Square-Enix announced on Friday. An open beta will begin on April 13.
A teaser trailer shows the game running in 4K resolution, and the company says it will have significantly improved frame rates and faster load times. If you are registered on the PS4 version of the game, the new optimized version can be played at no extra cost during the beta.
Final Fantasy XIV will also receive a new expansion pack called Endwalker:
Endwalker presents the climax of the story of Hydaelyn and Zodiark, in which the warriors of the light will encounter an even greater calamity than ever while traveling to the ends of Hydaelyn and even to the moon. In addition to bringing the long-lasting history arc that started with The Realm Reborn to its conclusion, Endwalker will mark a new start for the beloved MMO, setting the stage for new adventures that longtime fans and new players can enjoy together.
When Final Fantasy XIV was originally released in 2010, the game had such a reaction from players and critics that its original director and producer left the project, and the developer shut down its servers in 2012. It was relaunched in 2013 as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
