GAMECOCK NOTES
– South Carolina held Florida without a field goal for the final 6:37 am of the competition and used a 13-1 run during the final stretch to get a backwards victory over the 22/23 ranked Alligators on Wednesday in Gainesville. Junior shooting guard AJ Lawson scored 22 points to accelerate Gamecocks, and his eight rebounds were also the best of the team. It was Carolina’s third consecutive victory in Gainesville.
– Carolina surpassed Florida 50-30 in ink, marking its highest point in the total of paints of the season. Senior shipowner Seventh woods played a great move in that total, hitting 6 out of 10 on the floor, with several of those baskets made on the track. His 12 points marked a high this season.
– South Carolina duo Lawson (19.3) and junior striker Keyshawn Bryant (18.2) on average 37.5 points combined per SEC game this season, which is the second tandem ranked in the league game behind LSU Cameron Thomas and Trendon Watford, which has a combined average of 38.5 points per league match. Lawson needs only two points to reach 1,000 in his career.
– Junior advanced Justin Minaya has an average of 3.7 offensive rebounds per game from the SEC, which leads the league. Minaya takes a step into Gamecocks with 7.0 rebounds per contest, which is +1.7 rebounds per game above her career average. He has three doubles in the year, and also wins the Gamecocks with 3.0 offensive rebounds per game, which is the fourth in the SEC and the 49th nationally.
– Gamecocks are forcing 16.09 opponents’ turnovers per game (general games), which is the fourth in the SEC and the 35th nationally.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
– The state of Mississippi is 10-9 in the year and 4-6 in SEC competitions. MSU lost four of its last five disputes to action in the weekend in South Carolina. Bulldogs are led by the head coach Ben Howland in its sixth season in Starkville.
– In midweek action, the Bulldogs suffered a 61-45 loss on the road in Arkansas. In road games this season, MSU is 2-3, with all five disputes coming into play SEC.
– DJ Stewart Jr. (17.1), Iverson Molinar (16.9) and Tolu Smith (12.7) all middle double digits this season for the Bulldogs, and Smith’s 8.4 rebounds are the best of the team and the conference.
