Android 12 Developer Preview may arrive soon

The first Android 12 Developer Preview may arrive soon if a recent update to the app serves as an indicator. The Android Beta Feedback app, which came with Android beta and preview versions since Android 10 Q, has just received an update on the Play Store. With last year’s Beta program a long time ago, there is probably only one reason why Google would be pushing an update to the app: Android 12 is coming.

You don’t have to be Nostradamus to make that particular prediction; just look at a calendar. Android developer views usually arrive around this time. It used to happen in March, but last year Google postponed things to February, and that trend could continue, based on today’s evidence. But either way, a launch was expected to happen in the next 4-6 weeks.

The Android Beta Feedback app is intended to allow quick access to the Android bug tracker, allowing developers and testers to send bug reports to the apps and Android itself, bookmark and follow specific problems and only provide general feedback during the process months test. It came with previews and previous beta versions, since Android 10 Q, and you are usually asked to uninstall it if you start it when the trial program ends, but some people kept it installed anyway.

The new version was first identified by 9to5Google staff, with the Android Beta Feedback app being updated from v2.11 to V2.15-betterbug.external_20201211_RC02. You can download the same version, if you like, through our sister site, APK Mirror, but there is not much to see, although there are some curious details, like the fact that ‘it is installable on older versions of Android.

The application itself does not work if you open this new version, it simply prompts you to uninstall it. Nothing in it explicitly or directly states that this version of the app is linked to Android 12, but the purpose and timing of the app are beyond suspect.

We will probably see a launch happen in the coming weeks. Keep in mind that developer views usually arrive on Wednesdays, so mark the 10th, 17th and 24th on your calendars and we’ll let you know when it arrives.
