During a live broadcast from producer Final Fantasy XIV last year, which described the wave of content we received for update 5.4, it was revealed that a major event is planned for February. Well, this is today and is called the FFXIV showcase. Although it was not explicitly stated what would be revealed during the event, it is likely to include the first revelation of the next expansion of FFXIV.
The FFXIV Announcement Showcase will be broadcast live on February 5, 2021 (today) starting at 5:30 pm PT / 8:30 pm ET (February 6, 1:30 am GST), and will include live Japanese – English interpretation with English audio. You can watch the live stream through the official FFXIV YouTube or FFXIV Twitch channels. We have also included an incorporation of the flow below.
Initially, this event was supposed to be part of a 14-hour live broadcast in lieu of Fan Fest, which had to be canceled due to the global pandemic. However, we will also receive a new Live Letter from the Producer’s stream at the end of the night, at 10 pm Pacific time, following the announcement showcase, to describe what is to come in patch 5.5 for FFXIV.
Not much has been said about the showcase itself, although you can expect it to be an opportunity for Square Enix to show the next expansion for FFXIV. The MMORPG follows a schedule that offers an expansion every two years and five major content updates between events in the story of the link between the expansions. The last, Shadowbringers, released in July 2019 and received wide critical acclaim – for context, the revelation for it occurred in November 2018. The previous two expansions, Stormblood and Heavensward, launched in 2017 and 2015, respectively.
Patch 5.4, which aired on December 8, continued the main story search line along with the whimsical instantiated dungeon called Matoya’s Relict. The update also included the final phase of the Eden raid series, and more on the Sorrow of Werlyt missions that pitted you against Emerald Weapon in a boss fight. Important changes have also taken place in the Monk’s work, as well as in other resources, such as Triple Triad and Explorer mode for dungeons. Subsequent updates, such as patch 5.45 that was released this week, made changes and additions to the content of the Ishgardian Restoration and the missions of the Southern Front of Bozjan.
