Man from SC is arrested after complaint that he transported a minor for sex

SOUTH CAROLINA (WRDW / WAGT) – A Graniteville man may face charges after a complaint said he allegedly transported a minor across the state for explicit activities.

According to US Attorney Bobby Christine, the man, Jonathan Eugene Grantham, 45, appeared in court today with Judge Brian K. Epps.

Grantham works as a teacher at Ridge Spring-Monetta High School in Ridge Spring, South Carolina.

Court testimony says Grantham is accused of intentionally picking up a minor in Columbia County on or around July 20, 2019, and taking the minor across state borders to engage in prostitution.

Grantham was arrested for a federal complaint accusing him of “Transporting a minor with the intention of engaging in sexual activity”.

He faces the maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted. He currently remains in custody pending a detention hearing before Judge Epps.

We want to note that a criminal complaint is just an accusation and all defendants are found not guilty, unless and until their guilt is proven.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and processed in the United States by the United States assistant prosecutor and the Safe Childhood Project coordinator, Tara M. Lyons.
