3 North Carolina police officers shot by suspect who is now barricaded at home

North Carolina officials say three policemen were shot and wounded by a suspect who is now barricaded in a house in the town of High Point.

The WGHP reports that the stalemate started at 11:15 pm on Thursday.

High Point police lieutenant Matt Truitt told the police station that the officers suffered non-fatal injuries. One may need surgery.

Truitt said the officers were on a routine patrol and heard gunshots. They went to a house and saw a man on the front porch.

“He ended up retreating into the house, and we ended up having a blocked guy,” said Truitt.

Truitt said more police officers responded before the suspect started shooting them. Three policemen were hit. They were taken to a hospital.

The man remained barricaded on Friday morning. The police said they believed that no one else was inside the house.

“We have a job to do and a duty to protect life as well, so that’s the reason the negotiations are being done and the house hasn’t been knocked down or as you like,” said Truitt.
