Match of the Millennium will arrive on Nintendo Switch later this month

The crossover returns after 2 decades

The first fighting game in Capcom and SNK’s epic confrontation was virtually unknown and obscure due to their platform of choice, but now everyone will have a chance to see how things started.

SNK announced tonight that SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium will be launching on the Nintendo Switch on February 17 worldwide.

The newest member of NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection arrives with 26 fighters divided between the iconic lists of both companies.

Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown and The Last Blade members make up the SNK side of things more Athena while Capcom pulls from world warriors from Street Fighter and Darkstalkers.

Despite being in development at the same time as the first Capcom vs. fighting game. SNK, Match of the Millennium is quite different considering that it was built based on the The King of Fighters R series on NeoGeo Pocket Color.

This, of course, means that the game uses more chibi and less detailed sprites than its arcade contemporaries, but is full of charm and personality without sacrificing rigid controls.

Although SNK did not say otherwise, SNK vs. Capcom probably won’t come with any online functionality like the other titles in the collection, but local multiplayer is available.

It is very interesting to see the SNK and Capcom logos next to each other in a “current” game release, although there is little reason to expect anything more on that front at the moment – unless you plan on releasing SNK vs. Capcom. Capcom: Card Fighters titles.

Many fighting game fans would probably be even more enthusiastic about one of the modern hardware arcade / console versions, but the last relaunch we saw in this series versus in particular came from across the hall with Capcom vs. SNK 2 on the PlayStation 3 as a PS2 Classic.

Match of the Millennium is the sixth game of NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection, with previous releases being SNK Gals’ Fighters, Samurai Shodown! 2, King of Fighters R-2, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny and Fatal Fury First Contact.

All other NeoGeo Pocket Color reissues cost $ 7.99 USD on the Nintendo eShop, but SNK has yet to reveal a price for this piece of fighting game history.
